An Empty Analysis and the Habit of Not Fabricating Numbers in Vietnamese Swimming

When I was a swimming reporter for Thanh Nien newspaper, I had a habit that colleagues found strange. Every time a record was set, I did not go straight to the press conference. I stayed in the corridor, read the performance sheet again, then called two people on two different sides of the event: one from the organizing committee and one from the coaching staff. Only when those two stories matched did I ask the next question. Years later, I understand that habit was not caution; it was survival. Today I received a sports analysis in which every number felt like an open wound. No athlete name, no event, no technical indicator, no verifiable source. Nine assessment sections were listed, each marked N/A. I read carefully and put it down. People in the industry ask: what do you write when the dataset is empty? My answer is not about filling numbers. It is about knowing that some things must stay empty. Vietnamese swimming has a paradox. We have athletes with the right physique, endurance and desire. Names like Nguyen Huy Hoang and Tran Hung Nguyen remind us that human resources are not lacking. But if you ask how the scouting system created them, I have to admit that the data needed to answer remains scattered in the minds of coaches, not yet unified in a database. I once treated models as holy scripture. Now I realize models are just a compass. They cannot replace a coach's eyes or empathy for an athlete's body, but without them, we get lost. An empty analysis, therefore, does not make me pessimistic. It gives me hope that there are still people who understand the border between truth and guesswork. The real issue is what we will do with those empty boxes. We can see them as failure, or as an unexplored map. When we dare to say that we do not know, we open a path to knowing. When we dare to leave a blank analysis, we plant seeds for an honest data system. The question is not how many medals we have today, but how much clean data we will have tomorrow.
