Umngeni-uThukela Water Learnership Programme 2025–2026 is now accepting applications. This is a one-year, full-time training opportunity for unemployed youth who studied Maths and Science in Matric.
What This Learnership Offers
The uMngeni-uThukela Water Department is offering 20 one-year learnerships. These are for young people from deep rural parts of uMkhanyakude and uMzinto Districts in KwaZulu-Natal. The Umngeni-uThukela Water Learnership provides a National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment (NQF Level 2).
It blends theory and practice. Learners will attend classes, complete a Portfolio of Evidence (POE), and get hands-on training at plants in Richards Bay and Jozini.
Who Can Apply
This opportunity is ideal for rural youth who want to grow in the water sector but lack enough points for university. It helps learners gain both a qualification and work experience.
Applicants must be willing to study, attend classes, and work at the same time.

Umngeni-uThukela Water Learnership Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be unemployed
- Be 35 years or younger
- Have Matric with Maths and Physical Science
- Live in uMkhanyakude or uMzinto rural areas
- Be a South African citizen
- Not hold any qualification at NQF Level 5 or higher
- People with disabilities are encouraged to apply

- Proof of residence (get a letter from your Traditional Authority if staying in a village)
- Motivation letter stating why you should be selected
