The Department of Tourism is offering a 7-month opportunity through the SANParks Tourism Monitors Programme. A total of 250 participants will be selected and placed in national parks across South Africa. This programme includes training and real tourism work at parks near your home.
This is part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). It offers a daily stipend of R200, adding up to around R8000 per month. People with disabilities are welcome to apply. The focus is to boost safety and visitor services in the parks while helping youth gain real experience.
Where You Will Work
Successful applicants will be placed in parks like Kruger, Table Mountain, Addo Elephant, Karoo, Mountain Zebra, and many more. Candidates will work near their local area to reduce travel issues.
Who Can Apply
To apply, you must meet the following:
SANParks Tourism Monitors Programme Requirements
- Be a South African citizen with a certified ID copy
- Be unemployed, aged 18 to 35
- Have a matric certificate or an equivalent qualification
- Be fluent in English
- Live within 40km–100km of a national park
- Provide proof of residence (no affidavits accepted)
- Be physically fit and pass fitness tests if needed
- Have your own transport to and from the site
- Be willing to work weekends and holidays
- Show interest in the tourism or conservation sector
- One learner per household only
Note: Fitness tests may include a 2.4km run, 25 pushups, and 25 sit-ups.

What Happens After You Apply
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. You may be called for an interview near your home. Final selection will include medical and police clearance.
